Description
Patchouli is a bushy perennial herb that grows to around 1 meter high. It has a sturdy stem, soft hairy leaves and white, with a tinge of mauve, flowers in terminal spikes. It is harvested two to three times a year with the best quality being harvested during the wet season. The strongly scented leaves are picked by and then dried for three days before distillation. This drying process is critical for yield and quality. It should not be carried out in the sun, nor should fermentation be permitted.
